Derek Sutherland
Derek Sutherland was born in Dumfries 1981, and received training in Sculpture at Edinburgh College of Art. Derek's artistic practice focuses on ideas of instability, dysfunction, waste and decay in urban and rural settings and how they permeate our lives. Incorporating personal memories and adapting reclaimed and existing materials, Derek explores a visual language that moves between topographic and figurative perspectives.
Derek has had solo and two person shows in London (N/V Projects) Dundee (Generator) Edinburgh (The Number shop, Ir11) Belfast (Catalyst and QSS) Livingston (Howden Park Centre) and Glasgow (Inter/media) He has also exhibited across the UK, Australia and Sweden.
