Richie Moment

"No man for any considerable period can wear one face to himself, and another to the multitude, without finally getting bewildered as to which may be the true."--Nathaniel Hawthorne, The Scarlet Letter, 1850.

Authenticity isn't a default way of being for an individual, it is difficult, having to be constantly won every day. So often as soon as a level of success is achieved it must be won again.

So I am Richie Moment, because everyone needs someone bad to look up too.

I make work that activates a 1-2-1 with the viewer, that provokes a questioning, a thought, in place of me physically being there. I don't just want people to go away and think about it. I want a question to be burning a hole in their day. To remember what the energy of deep inquisitive thought feels like, to feel changed. To make work where you know more about yourself then you know about the work after spending time with it.

Richie Moment was born 1984 in Folkstone, England and graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from The University of the West of England in 2013. Moment’s education continued with a postgraduate Diploma at the Royal Academy Schools, London (2014 - 2017). His forthcoming exhibitions include Double Solo which opens in April 2020 at Thameside Gallery, London. Richie Moment shows work regularly in the UK and internationally.
